Congratulations:
Believe it or not Kenya is in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. In cross country skiing
(of all things), Philip Boit finished in last place. Boit, who is from Eldoret in Kenya,
is thrilled with being the first ever Kenyan entrant in a skiing event. He says that he
will continue to strive in his dream of being a champion. He said today that he hopes to
reach his goal in the next 3 to 4 years. As far as I am concerned, Boit has taken a big
step for Kenya, the only skiing I ever saw in my thirteen years in Kenya was done on
water. There were 5 other entrants that dropped out of the race, so I believe that Philip
has shown true olympic spirit by finishing the race regardless of rank. Philip was
congradulated by Bjoern Daehlie of Norway ( Gold Medalist ) upon crossing the finsh line.

Soccer is the sport in Kenya, as it is in most of the world. Both national and international games are followed in the papers, and the World Cup finds virtually the whole country in front of every available television. Children playing with a bundle of rags for a ball are just as enthusiastic as the First Division veterans. Pick up games are easy to find, although ball control is often more highly regarded than team strategy.
